CGPC Invites Global Financial Planning Leaders to Paris

FPSB 2015 Global Member Meeting in Paris“Paris is always a good idea.” — Audrey Hepburn

By Guy Bonduelle, CEO, Association Française des Conseils en Gestion de Patrimoine Certifiés (CGPC)

Springtime in Paris, for those who haven’t experienced it, is a delight – not only for the senses, but also for the mind. As clouds turn to sun, frigid winds become soft, cool breezes, and flowers and trees begin to bloom, it’s a wonderful time to think about new ideas and fresh perspectives.

With that in mind, Association Française des Conseils en Gestion de Patrimoine Certifiés (CGPC) welcomes Financial Planning Standards Board, the global professional standards-setting body for financial planning, and our FPSB Member colleagues in 26 territories, to Paris for the first Global Member Meeting. Growth and engagement are two major areas of focus for our meeting, which takes place from 19-24 April. Financial planning is still an emerging profession in many parts of the world. Our goal is to help the profession grow, by setting and upholding rigorous global standards and providing the tools needed to support financial planners throughout their career, such as globally consistent, locally relevant education programs, a strong Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility, and appropriate guidance to help practitioners deliver high-quality financial plans to clients.

FPSB owns the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER certification program outside the United States, and partners with organizations like CGPC to offer the credential around the world. In France, for example, more than 1,600 individuals have met the requirements for this prestigious certification, but that’s far from enough to service France’s population of more than 66 million people. At the FPSB meeting in Paris, CGPC will participate in discussions on how best to grow CFP certification worldwide, and work with financial planning leaders from our sister organizations to develop a global plan for growth – one that will help us evolve from 157,000 CFP professionals in 26 territories now, to 250,000 CFP professionals in 40 territories over the next 10 years.

FPSB Global Member Meeting ParisThe agenda for the April meeting also includes a discussion on consumer awareness of financial planning. How do we communicate the value of financial planning and CFP certification in a way that engages consumers, both in France and around the world? At the Paris meeting, we’ll continue work we started in Shanghai six months ago on a plan to understand consumer behavior, and a campaign to get individuals and families excited about taking control of their lives through personal financial planning.

CGPC looks forward to hosting the world’s key influencers and thought leaders in Paris, as we work together to advance the financial planning profession. We hope you’ll follow the proceedings through social media. FPSB will provide regular updates on Facebook and Twitter, and you can also visit fpsb.org to view announcements from the meeting. Springtime in Paris will be our inspiration, but the future of the financial planning profession will be foremost in our hearts and minds. Welcome to our friends and colleagues – we’ll see you soon!
